The Remote Community Engineer is seeking for a community advocate to join their team. Are you passionate about open-source software and community building? Do you have a technical background and enjoy working collaboratively with diverse, global teams? We are looking for a Community Engineer to join our team and support exciting community initiatives that empower individuals to contribute to innovative open-source projects, including the popular Ubuntu platform.

In this role, you’ll be the bridge between developers and the broader open-source community, helping to drive impactful community-driven projects. You’ll work with volunteer developers, assist with process improvements, and ensure that community efforts are well-integrated into our broader goals. Your contributions will help create new technical tools and resources that make the community’s work easier and more effective.

You’ll be responsible for creating engaging content, such as blogs and social media posts, that highlight community efforts and accomplishments.

You will also represent the community at conferences and expos, sharing insights and stories from technical projects. Through your work, you’ll help ensure the success and sustainability of community-driven projects and foster collaboration between developers and the larger open-source ecosystem.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a deep understanding of open-source software, Linux, and community building.

Key Responsibilities

Proactively collaborate with a global, distributed team to support community initiatives.

Write high-quality content, including blogs and social media posts, to promote and support community activities.

Engage with the open-source community via platforms like AskUbuntu, IRC, social media, and at conferences.

Represent the community and the projects you support at industry events and speaking engagements.

Work autonomously while collaborating with others to find solutions to community challenges.

Travel globally (2 to 4 weeks per year) for internal and external events. More travel may be available if desired.

What We Are Looking For

A passion for technology and the desire to work with brilliant people.

Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively.

Self-motivation, curiosity, and a proactive attitude.

Experience with open-source projects and developer tools.

A demonstrated history of community involvement (through talks, blog posts, GitHub contributions, etc.).

Experience in at least one of the following: Ubuntu Linux (kernel or userspace), DevOps, software development, testing/QA, package management, container technology.

The ability to work independently and manage your own objectives.
