Lastly, tour guides assist tourists with answering their questions and providing helpful tips and recommendations to help them enjoy their tour. Tour guides could equally do other oversight roles such as gathering insights for improvement, documenting tour activities, incidents, or concerns and ensuring tourists’ satisfaction including providing additional information about the city or nearby facilities.

To carryout the above mentioned roles, tour guides should possess qualities such as: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; strong knowledge of local history, culture, and attractions; flexibility, adaptability, and problem-solving skills; physical stamina and ability to walk/stand for extended periods and lastly; language proficiency (depending on tour requirements).

Tour guides can work at different facilities such as travel companies, tourism centers, museums, cultural institutions, national parks, wildlife reserves and private tour facilities.
